Hjerno has itself trained almost every sixth tool maker

Talented young employees are the timber, with which a company builds its future.

"That is why we are extremely happy and proud of the fact that as many as nine of the apprentices, whom we have trained throughout the ages, are still part of the company today," says Managing Director Aage Agergaard.

With approximately 55 permanently employed tool makers, this in other words means that Hjerno has itself trained almost every sixth of the employees in the production.

38 years of service
"It is very nice that they stay here. It must mean that we are an attractive company and that we take good care of our apprentices," Aage Agergaard continues.

Thus, one of Hjerno’s most experienced employees is tool maker Erling Jensen, who has been working for the company for 38 years. He was trained at Hjerno in the early 1980s and has been part of the company since then.

Apprentices are allowed to try things out
Aage Agergaard emphasises that Hjerno does also put a large long-standing effort into attracting and retaining apprentices for the production.

Pupils from the Danish Folkeskole and students from the technical schools are regularly invited in, and apprentices are treated on an equal footing with the other employees.

"We are very far from the stereotypical image that the apprentice is the guy, who stands in the corner with a broom. Mentors are assigned to Hjerno’s apprentices and the apprentices are allowed to feel their way in the various departments throughout the company," Aage Agergaard underlines.

"We are working according to the principle that our fully-trained apprentices must become even more skilled than our existing journeymen. It is our way of raising the professional level," he adds.
