Team building on Odense River

A Friday in June, Hjerno held its fourth rich in tradition canoe trip on Odense River. Here, our employees have the opportunity to test their level of fitness and at the same time get to know each other better within some unconventional frameworks.

"Usually we always have to care for and prioritise our machines, and that is why it is important sometimes to put our employees at the centre of events. We can see that it helps to strengthen the unity in everyday life," explains Managing Director Aage Agergaard.

Boat race and new leader
The total of 11 kilometres was completed in six hours and featured both spontaneous races and good-natured fights between the canoe teams - as well as an incorporated lunch break at the Kulturbotanisk Have Odense with BBQ delicacies from Restaurant Odense Golf Club.

"When we reached the end of the tour, all participants looked like seasoned canoeists. Manoeuvring such a canoe is in itself a study of teamwork, and in addition, leaders and organisers always pop up, for example at the locks. That is always healthy in a team," explains Aage Agergaard.

Due to the many recent new appointments at Hjerno, this year's canoe trip also served as a get-acquainted activity for the newcomers and the more experienced employees, he elaborates.

Active events are a plus for the company
The canoe tour is part of Hjerno’s efforts to organise social events in which the employees are given the opportunity to be active in the open. Another example is Hjerno’s regular participation in the Eventyrløb fitness run each spring.

"For instance, we do not arrange Christmas lunches, because we do not think this matches Hjerno’s set of values. We prefer doing something active with our employees, where they get concrete benefits in return," concludes Aage Agergaard.
